TOP FOUNDATION MISTAKES I SEE US MAKE

Hello, readers I am back with another blog post and today we will talk about something that has been bugging me basically since I even knew how to apply my own foundation was.

I am in no way claiming to be a make up guru, but I will just share some things I have learnt along the way.

USING A FOUNDATION THAT IS TOO LIGHT OR THAT HAS THE WRONG UNDERTONE.

The first thing I noticed especially since I started selling foundations is that no one wants to admit that they are actually darker than they are and always tend to go for foundations that are much lighter than they are. I guess its cuz of the whole obsession in Nigeria to be fairer. I also find that lots of Nigerian make up brands don't even give us a lot of options when it comes to foundation shades and I think it is partly cuz they know Nigerians want lighter shades.

The thing we don't know is that especially when it comes to trying to hide dark spots and things, using a foundation that is too light will make it appear worse, it's better to use a shade that's exactly your shade and undertone or at least very close or even a little darker, its always better than using something lighter, cuz you could counter it with highlighting and maybe contouring.

NOT BLENDING FOUNDATION COMPLETELY.

Another common mistake I see is when people don't blend their foundation properly into the ends of their faces and hair lines. I literally just saw this a few days back. There was literally a round foundation mark around her face, just like here in this photo.

Just get the right tools to blend your foundations properly  and take a little more time with blending your foundation into your hair line.

THINKING ITS OKAY TO NOT SET YOUR FOUNDATION.

This is one mistake that I don't understand why people with oily skin still make. I don't care how matte that foundation claims to be. Please set it with a powder either loose or pressed.

USING A FOUNDATION THAT IS BREAKING YOU OUT.

As an acne sufferer myself, I do realize that makeup doesn't necessarily break you out, but there are some which do. A lot of Nigerian brands I find don't necessarily cater to people with really sensitive skin, so often I opt for international brands when it comes to primer and foundation, not that there aren't international brands that will break you out, but there are a lot more that won't.

APPLYING TOO LITTLE FOUNDATION

If you have legit dark spots to cover, please don't apply foundation like you have blemishes, cuz that thing will peep through and you will look weird. I am not saying finish the foundation on your face but apply enough to cover your face as much as possible, or if you can afford to, you can buy a concealer then apply a little foundation and use a concealer to cover you spots.

NOT USING A FOUNDATION FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE.

This is very common with people with oily skin, I mean people with normal to even dry skin, they can get away with so many types of foundation. If you have oily skin, please go for foundations that are matte and this is cuz matte foundations have lesser amount of oils and liquids and are instead more concentrated and if you have dry skin as well, go for regular foundations. Here are afforable foundations perfect for people with oily skin.

NOT HAVING A SKIN PREP ROUTINE.

Now this is mostly for people with oily skin or really dry skin. Not having a good skin prep routine, weather its applying a moisturizer or primer or spray mist or oil can in the long run affect how your foundation looks, if you have dry skin try to moisturize with a good thick cream or a good oil before any foundation application. If you have oily skin like me here are some skin prep tips you could use.

Thank you for dropping by the blog, feel free to ask questions and also drop any other foundation mistakes you have made or have see others make, lets laugh together.

6 MOST AFFORDABLE TONING BODY LOTIONS AVAILABLE IN NIGERIA THAT ACTUALLY WORK

Hello readers welcome back to a new blog post. Probably the most asked question I get is "Nelo, I am getting darker what is the best cream I can use to get back my skin tone popping again"

A little disclaimer, I am not in anyway encouraging anyone to go and bleach their neither is this post about skin bleaching, toning your skin simply helps to remove dirt, pollutants and the effect of sun rays from skin and gives you a fresh a look.

N:B: To achieve better results when it comes to toning its always best to accompany a good toning moisturizer with a good wash or soap, I will post on that soon. Also for the creams that have hydroquinone or any active skin lightening agent, please I do advice using it at night only and using a moisturizer like the NIVEA NATURAL FAIRNESS lotion with spf during the day.

So, the extreme glow is definitely the top on my list. This stuff works well and even though I personally do not use it because of the price, you know as they say "better soup na money kill am". This cost I believe between 14000-17000 Naira and all the people I know who use and have used it have really glowy skin and I hope to try it out one day...

This is another great body lotion, it does the job without making your skin look all reddish and patchy. If you do have the funds for it, this is definitely a great buy. This usually cost between 7500 and 8500 Naira and is worth every penny because it does work.

The next on my list will be the Q WHITE PARIS KOJIC +, I already reviewed this on the blog here so I am not gonna say too much about it anymore but this is legit an amazing body lotion and the price is not as bad as the extreme glow lotion or the QEI paris and its also a really good lotion. This cost 4000 naira.

The next lotion I have for you is an oldie but goodie. It has been in the Nigerian market for many years and people seem to under rate this. It does contain hydroquinone 2% which is the approved amount and it isn't harmful to the skin at all. I also reviewed it HERE

This particular kind of NIVEA lotion is not like the regular NIVEA NATURAL FAIRNESS, which does works but in my opinion works a little slowly. This particular type of nivea lotion can't be gotten in many stores in Nigeria but I have come across this in certain stores here in Abuja though like the "Perfect trust store in wuse, Abuja". I find this particular one to be more potent than the regular nivea lotion made for the Nigerian market.

This is the last on my list but definitely least, I gave this the last because I find that this doesn't work for everyone and I also find that this makes me sweat a lot which I absolutely hate especially when the weather is hot. But a few people have said that this works for them. I did also do a full review on this HERE.

So that's it for my list of lotions, creams and or moisturizers for toning your skin. This are the ones that me and people that I know personally used and love. If you have any question or have any other lotion to add to the list please do leave a comment below and I will be happy to help you.

CREAMS FOR SPOTS AND HYPERPIGMENTATION FOUND IN NIGERIA

Hello readers how are you today? spots on the face can be very embarrassing, I personally usually get hyper pigmentation on my face as a result of pimple that have finally gone. From experience I am going to share with you things that work for me and people I know.

N.B: some things here are not highly recommended for people with sensitive skin but please do know that I will let you know which is which.

Clarins is one product I really love, but to be honest their products are really pricey but if you have sensitive skin, you can be sure that their products will not break you out. Their brightening day and night creams are absolutely amazing and will really help put with spots. Their day cream has spf which will help keep the effect of sun rays away.

Serums are another good way to get rid of scars from acne or whatever. Above I have listed three which are really good and also can be readily gotten in Nigeria. The best amongst these 3 for me will be the truskin vitamin c serum but its not sold here but can be gotten from amazon.com, you can order this directly to Nigeria you if you really wanna try it out, its also good for people with sensitive skin.

Retin A is another good way to get rid of spots, but you have to use it properly. Start from a really weak strength and moisturize after the retin A has dried down. Never apply it on wet skin, make sure your skin is dry first. I am actually about to use this cuz I have so many spots to clear out right now and this did work in the past for me. You can get this from your local pharmacy and is great for people with sensitive skin as well.

This last two I honestly can't say how it works on people with sensitive skin like mine but I have seen people who don't have sensitive sin use it and it worked really well and they are also very inexpensive.

IS Q WHITE PARIS MORINGA CLAIRE KOJIC+ ZERO BLEMISH A BLEACHING CREAM?

Q WHITE MORINGA CLAIRE KOJIC+

Hello readers

WHAT ARE THE CLAIMS OF THIS LOTION

I bought this moisturizer at my local beauty store for 3500 naira. The Q white moringa claire kojic + zero blemish natural fairness lotion claims to reduce blemishes in 5 days.

It says the clarifying properties and moisturizing agents formula that promotes visibly brighter and more radiant complexion. This fruit - fragrance lotion is the ideal care product for people suffering hyper pigmentation products. For optimal result, use morning and evening after shower.

WHAT I THINK ABOUT THE Q WHITE MORINGA CLAIRE KOJIC+ LOTION

First of I have to acknowledge the fact that the packaging of this lotion is very pretty, it's simple but really attractive.

Secondly, I like the fact that each bottle comes a code which you could scratch and send to ensure that the cream is original, this is always a plus because there are so many fakes in the market right now, so its always good to know when you are buying fakes.

HOW TO SPOT A FAKE Q WHITE MORINGA CLAIRE KOJIC+

This moisturizer is great and it honestly does exactly what it says it does..I had some blemishes that I was looking to clear out and it did that and I started seeing results in about 6 days. I am also using a body wash which also helps with the spots but this is like the icing on the cake for me.

I do feel like it is quiet pricey for the size but as they say "better soup na money kill am".

It says on the pack that it is fruit scented but that's quiet untrue, I didn't scent anything while using this but that's not at all an issue for me.

A lot of things are wrongly spelled on the bottle of this product and it can easily make you think otherwise about the product, but don't,
this moisturizer is not bad at all.

This moisturizer is creamy but dries fast and it doesn't make me sweat like the Q7 paris lotion which I complained about in my last  lotion review...

Overall I will give this lotion a whooping 4 stars out of 5..

Please whatever questions that you may have about this lotion below and I will surely get back to you.. Thank you for reading..

TIPS TO MAKE YOUR MAKEUP LAST ALL DAY FOR PEOPLE WITH OILY SKIN

0

I got the idea for this blog post from a customer of mine who came to buy the maybelline fit me matte foundation (and yes I do sell this foundation at just 4500 and if you are in Abuja you will get free delivery), she said she wanted to get into the whole slay game but that from past experiences with her oily skin and makeup she was afraid to try again. Whenever I wear makeup people always ask me how my make up stays on all day despite the fact that I claim to have really really oily skin.

Today's post is dedicated to oily skin people like me who want to wear foundation and slay their makeup but feel like their oiliness will get in the way. please read to the end of the blog post, every tip counts.

CLEANSE

I made a whole post about the importance of the type of cleanser you use for your oily skin, you can check it out here. Avoid cleansers and soaps that are super harsh or better still avoid actual bar soaps completely. This will make your face drier and cause you sebaceous glands to produce a lot of oil. This specific johnson's baby wash is my fave as well as the neutrogena pink grape fruit but please read this post here for the only condition to which you can use the neutrogena pink grape fruit facial scrub.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR TONER

This step I only recommend if you have used a very mild face wash like the johnsons face wash but I will advice you avoid if you used a cleanser with an active ingredient. because this may make your skin too sensitive. ACV helps to shrink your pores and reduce oil production as well as fight against any active pimple you may have.

HOW TO DIY ACV TONER

  • GET A CLEAN SAUCER.
  • ADD TWO PART WATER TO EVERY PART ACV. I.E I DO HALF A TEA SPOON OF ACV AND A TEA SPOON OF WATER.
  • DAB IN A COTTON PAD.
  • SWIRL ON YOUR FACE.
  • PLEASE DO NOT MIX THE WHOLE BOTTLE OF ACV, IT MAKES THE ACV GET SOUR AND THIS WILL DO YOUR FACE MORE HARM THAN GOOD.

MOISTURIZE

This step is so important but please if you have sensitive skin do not just go to your beauty supplier and buy any moisturizer you see, get moisturizers that are made specifically for people with oily and sensitive skin, you can check some out HERE. Just in case you didn't know people have oily skin because their skin produces way too much oil, to combat or slow down this process you have to trick the skin into believing that it has produced oil already, by  moisturizing your skin you at least know the exact amount of moisture on your face and as a result your skin doesn't produce as much oil, if that makes sense.

PRIMER

So the first three steps will help with reducing oil production and also help with the health of your skin. A mattifying Primer on the other hand will take your make up longevity to a whole new level.
If however you do not have the money to get a primer to use underneath your foundation, you can use any oil control loose setting powder you have just before applying your foundation. My favorite mattifying primer is the rimmel stay matte and it cost about 4000-5000naira.

FOUNDATION AND SETTING POWDER

If you have oily skin, you do not just go out and buy any foundation you see or see your friend use, you have to be sure it is a matte foundation and if you have sensitive skin you also need something that won't break you out. HERE are some foundations that work great for oily skin
.
Finally please always set your foundation with an oil control powder preferably a loose setting powder.

N.B: Please when your skin get a lil oily please don't use a handkerchief to wipe your face use a blotting paper or one ply of your tissue paper to gently dab off the oil and maybe touch up with your powder if necessary.

Thank you for reading, please do leave a comment and I will be glad to reply.

I am able to have a good time without worrying too much about my makeup.

6 MOST AFFORDABLE LONG LASTING FOUNDATION FOR OILY SKIN AND SENSITIVE ACNE PRONE SKIN AVAILABLE IN NIGERIA.

Welcome ladies and gentlemen, actually welcome back ladies but if you are a guy and you are on here, it's okay there is absolutely no judgement...lol,

I have been meaning to make a blog post like this for a while now. I have really oily and acne prone skin like my regular blog readers know, and when choosing a foundation, its not only about the brand or its coverage ability, it is also important for me to get a foundation that will hold it's own against the huge amount of oil my glands produce on daily basis..lol. It is also really important for me to use a foundation that will not cause me any more pimples because I do have really sensitive and acne prone skin.

Below are the foundations that are tested and trusted that worked great for me and other people.

This is the maybelline fit me matte and poreless foundation  and it is my best affordable foundation in the market today. I absolutely love it, the foundation cost anywhere from 4000-5000 naira and this is also a good dupe for the estee' lauder foundation.

The covergirl trublend matte made foundation is number two on this list. I also have a review of this foundation up on my blog and even though this is just as good if not even better than the maybelline matte and poreless foundation, this has the number two spot because unlike maybelline the foundations, this is a little harder to find in Nigeria. It cost about 5000-6000naira and it is worth every penny.
To purchase this you could check Instagram and online store, just make sure they are legit.

The l'oreal infalliable foundation is probably harder to get here in Nigeria, but certain online stores do carry this brand. This foundation is amazing but like I said in my review the shade range isn't as wide, I believe there are just 12 shades and I am in the shade112 cocoa.

Though I am yet to make a review on this foundation, this foundation is absolutely amazing. it retails in Nigeria betweeen 4000-4500, the shade range is not as good as the fit me but its better thanvthe l'oreal. It a mousse so its a really matte finish and it is perfect for oily skin especially during the very sweaty season. I also love this dream matte mousse because I don't necessarily have to set it with a powder.(but because I am so extra,I probably will).

For some reason people don't talk about this foundation as much but this is also a really good foundation, yes its not as matte as the rest but it really good for everyday use and it will not break you out which is very important to me. The coverage is light coverage but buildable. It retails for 5000-5500naira and it is number five on list because of the cost and comparing it to the function and cost of those above it.

The last on my list will have to be the classic makeup usa foundation. This retails for 2000 naira and its a super matte foundation, this is also the only foundation on my list that is from a Nigerian brand. The two things I don't really like about this foundation is the fact that the shade range is very limited with I believe 4 or 5 shades and also the fact that it is not so easy blend for some reason. Other than that this is a really good foundation.

WHAT FOUNDATION HAVE YOU TESTED LATELY? LEAVE ALLCOMMENTS BELOW, I WILL DEFINITELY GET BACK TO YOU.

MAYBELLINE FIT ME MATTE AND PORELESS VS MAYBELLINE SUPER STAY FOUNDATION FOR OILY SKIN

I have really oily skin and whenever I hear that a foundation is matte or claims to have superstay, I tend to want to gravitate towards it. I bought the maybelline fit me around the time it came out and I absolutely loved and still love it.

When the superstay foundation came out, it was advertised to be a better version of the maybelline fit me and I have since wandered if it is better or worse than the maybelline fit me and if you are reading this, you probably are too. You can buy the maybelline foundations in Nigeria at your local beauty supply store.

SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THE MAYBELLINE FIT ME AND SUPER STAY.

  • They are both matte.
  • They are both oil free.
  • They are both the same size.
  • The shade range of the maybelline fit me is better than the super stay.
  • Maybelline super stay oxidizes i.e gets darker after a while, so be very careful before you buy the wrong shade. Never assume that your shade in fit me will be your shade in superstay.
  • Super stay has better coverage than fit me.
  • Super stay comes with a pump but fit me doesn't.
  • Maybelline fit me is cheaper(In Nigeria fit me ranges from (4000-6000 and superstay ranges from 5000-7000 naira).
  • The maybelline fit me has a longer staying power than the superstay. If you have oily skin the maybelline fit me will last longer for you than the superstay,
In conclusion when I weigh the pros and cons of the two foundations, I have to say that I prefer the maybelline fit me over the maybelline super stay for my oily skin, I hate when foundations oxidize and the fact that the maybelline fit me holds in my oils and last longer makes it better for me.

However, if you have normal to dry skin, the maybelline super stay will be good for you. The maybelline fit me is not for people with dry skin.

COVERGIRL TRUBLEND MATTE MADE FOUNDATION, D70 CAPPACINO REVIEW AND 12HR WEAR TEST

COVERGIRL TRUBLEND MATTE MADE FOUNDATION..D70 CAPPACINO

Covergirl is a US based drugstore makeup brand, and honestly I have never used anything from covergirl before and was excited so to try this. The reviews on this trublend foundations looked really good so I decided to tell you my opinion about it. I bought this from amazon.com for about $10 and I got mine in the shade D70 cappacino.
this is what my skintone is

covergirl trublend matte made foundation D70

WHAT IT SAYS ON COVERGIRL TRUBLEND MATTE MADE FOUNDATION

Comfort matte, transfer resistant, oil free formular, pump application included.

What I love about this foundation is that it doesn't say much on the bottle.

what it looks like just applied

MY VERDICT ON THE COVERGIRL TRUBLEND MATTE MADE FOUNDATION.

First of all I did buy this for less than $10 which is honestly a steal. In terms of affordability this is a 5 star. ( In Nigeria this foundation retails for 6000-8000 naira). I do have oily skin so I am always in search of good matte foundations like the maybelline fit me and the l'oreal infalliable foundation which I reviewed on the blog.

This foundation is really thick and not runny at all, I believe that is why it is necessary that it came with a pump or it will be difficult to bring out from the container.

It also comes in 40 shades which is great because everyone can find their shade match.

When they say this foundation is matte, they weren't kidding at all. It is really matte and D70 is my not exact shade, it's slightly darker , next time I will get D50 although with a good highlight, I do get away with this shade. I compared it to maybelline fit me and l'oreal infalliable pro-matte and while they are all similar in finish I will have to say that Covergirl is a bit thicker inconsistency. However the finish of this foundation is very similar to the l'oreal infalliable pro-matte.

There are times that I do mix the l'oreal and covergirl together just because the "l'oreal 112 cocoa" does have more of a red undertone than the covergirl and like I said the D70 is darker.

Another thing I look for in a foundation because I do have acne prone skin is a foundation that will not break me out and worsen my situation or clog my pores. This does not feel heavy at all, its medium to full coverage but still so light weight, it didn't clog my pores or break me out further and I have used this quiet a bit.

Its also great that it is oil-free

I wore this foundation for 12 hrs, I used my rimmel stay matte primer because I have really really really oily skin.

12hr wear test on the covergirl trublend matte and poreless foundation.

After about 5 hours my nose got a little oily but nothing too crazy at about 10 hours my face got really oily as seen above, which is expected in fact the fact that it stayed this long before it got really oily is amazing.

Once I blotted  out the oil with a single ply tissue paper, it was okay again as seen above and I loved that.

I give this a 5 star rating and as of now this is my favourite foundation.
