MAYBELLINE FIT ME MATTE+PORELESS FOUNDATION IN 340 CAPPACINO ON OILY ACNE PRONE SKIN IN NIGERIA.

For a very long time, I have been avoiding the use of foundation because I have very oily and very sensitive skin. When I saw this Maybelline fit me matte+poreless foundation and the reviews it got I was still skeptical about it because Nigerian weather is quite different from the weather in UK and USA, but then cost was about $7 which was about 2,500naira, so I took the risk and tried it out.

I bought the Maybelline fit me MATTE+PORELESS foundation from amazon.com and sent it through a family member who came on holidays, but a lot of stores carry it in Nigeria.

In Nigeria this foundation can cost anything from 4500-6000naira.

SWATCH OF MAYBELLINE MATTE AND PORELESS FOUNDATION IN 340 CAPPACINO

BLENDED SWATCH OF MAYBELLINE MATTE AND PORELESS FOUNDATION IN 340 CAPPACINO
The first thing I noticed was how yellow the undertone of this foundation was which, I didn't mind at all. I always prefer more yellowish than reddish undertones.

WHAT IT SAYS ON THE MAYBELLINE FIT ME MATTE +PORELESS BOTTLE

SHADE: 340 CAPPACINNO
  • CLAIMS: Mattifies and refines pores(makes your pores appear smaller)
  •  Matches natural tone
  • Natural seamless finish
 N.B: contains parabens

HOW I APPLY IT
I apply ponds powder first. Then apply the foundation using a stippling foundation brush and then set with a powder.

MY HONEST REVIEW
PROS
  • Demi matte finish, it is matte but not so matte that it proves difficult to blend, if you have oily skin this is a good foundation for you.
  • The widest variety of foundation shades I have ever seen, so even the lightest or darkest person will find their shade.
  • The packaging is lovely.
  • It doesn't feel heavy on the face, sometimes I even forget I have make up on.
  • The coverage is very buildable.
  • Can last up to 8-10 hours without producing excess oil but only if your skin is not so oily and the humidity is cold(which is not always the samein Nigeria).
  • Does not cause break out or pimples(my skin is super sensitive)
  • Helps minimize pores a little bit.
  • All the claims of this foundation is true.

CONS
  • It doesn't come with a pump, which can lead to wastage of the product if one isn't careful.
  • Coverage isn't full, some dark spots still peaked through (you must color correct).
  • If you live were it is hot and have oily skin you have to keep blotting and resetting your makeup with powder (but honestly I blot less with this foundation than a lot of more high end foundations).
FINAL REMARK
As you can see the pros of the MAYBELLINE MATTE AND PORELESS FOUNDATIONfoundation is way more than the cons. I rate this a **** instead of a five but only cuz I have an oily skin and Nigeria is super hot and so I will prefer a more mattifying and oil control foundation (Please note that you can use a mattiffying primer to get the best out of your foundation). I will definitely be repurchasing this again but not in the shade 340 cappacino, I will go a shade darker because during sunny weather I get a little darker.

WHAT IS THE BEST TREATMENT FOR ACNE/PIMPLES AVAILABLE IN NIGERIA

If you are here, I believe like me you have battled with the question. What is the best acne or pimples treatment available in Nigeria, fear no more, I am here to the rescue (so melodramatic).
Basically the major over the counter treatments available for pimples or acne are
  • SALICYLIC ACID
  • BENZOYL PEROXIDE
  • RETIN A

we will be analyizing all three and you can try to figure out what works for you. PLEASE READ THIS POST TO THE END.

RETIN A AKA RETINOL:

This works by exfoliating the heck out of your skin, it clears out dead skin cells really fast and so the idea is, it makes your acne or pimples heal really fast.

The issue with retin A or retinol creams available for treatment of pimples in Nigeria is the fact that it is not very great for people with sensitive skin. Retinol creams are usually either of a low grade or of high grade and if your skin is really sensitive getting the low grade retinol cream is a bad idea and sadly those are the ones widely available in Nigeria{LIKE THE ONE IN THE ABOVE PHOTO}, but if you have acne but your skin isn't sensitive this is a great buy, it will deal with both with you acne and hyperpigmentation at the same time.
It comes in different strengths 0.025, 0.05, 0,1%
Retin A also usually comes in either cream or gel form. I advice getting the gel form if you have oily skin and also starting from the lowest strength and work your way up.

SALICYLIC ACID

This is another acne treatment widely available in Nigeria. Neutrogena products dominate the Nigerian market and most of their face washes contain salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is described as a beta hydroxyl acid {bha} and also works by exfoliating the skin thereby reducing acne or pimples. I do notice with salicylic acid products, especially most Neutrogena products that they work at first, but once your skin gets used to it, your skin might get worse.
So like retin A, I recommend this to people who have acne but whose skins aren't really as sensitive. I recommended a Neutrogena product to my friend who had a few pimples and whose skin wasn't sensitive and it worked for her.

BENZOYL PEROXIDE:

I believe that benzoyl peroxide is the only topical medication that actually works by killing the bacteria causing acne or pimples. it kills 99.9% of the bacteria causing acne.
This unlike the other two is great for everyone weather you have a sensitive skin or not. In my opinion this is the only topical acne medication that really deals with the root cause of acne and once your acne is cleared, in as much as you are more careful with your skin you will be fine.
The problem I find with Nigerian versions of benzoyl peroxide is that they tend to be very high in percentage, BP comes in three strengths which are 2.5%, 5% and 10% and studies has proven that they all have the same effect on the skin but the 2.5% strength is less irritating to the skin, but unfortunately many Nigerian brands only carry it in 10% strength and typing from experience, it will work at first but will worsen your situation after.
The only brand of benzoyl peroxide that I recommend and use {not sponsored} is the ACNE.ORG BENZOYL PEROXIDE 2.5% luckily some online stores carry it in Nigeria, I just find that it can be expensive to buy in Nigeria. For or me I always have family coming to Nigeria on holidays, so I just order it online on amazon or the acne.org website and have them bring it to me or you could order to Nigeria they deliver to Nigeria, when my acne was severe I ordered the biggest kit but these days I just order the 8oz BP and it last me a year cuz I don't have to use it as often.. THERE ARE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE RIGHT WAY TO USE THE ACNE,ORG PRODUCTS ON THEIR SITE.

SO LONG STORY SHORT MY WINNER WILL HAVE TO BE BENZOYL PEROXIDE FOR TREATING ACNE OR PIMPLES IN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON ONE WITH A LOW STRENGTH OR YOUR SKIN CAN WITHSTAND THE ONES WITH HIGH STRENGTHS..

WHAT ACNE PRODUCTS HAVE YOU USED THAT YOU FOUND IN NIGERIA? LEAVE QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS BELOW. I LOVE HEARING FROM MY READERS.

TEXTURE MY WAY TEXTURIZING AND SOFTENING SYSTEM REVIEW AND PRICE

Well, I bought the texture my way texturizer this time around, because as we all know in the Nigerian market either of two things always happen whenever you try to repurchase an item you have run out of, either you don't see it anymore or the price jacks up so high that you cannot even afford it. The later happened when I tried to repurchase my curls and naturals texturizer, it went from about 2000 naira to 4500 naira and I was like hell no. I decided to pick out this instead and give it a try.

  4. HAIR MAYONNAISE
  5. CURL KEEPER: USED FOR STYLING
  6. A GUIDE PAMPHLET

MY VIEWS ON THE TEXTURE MY WAY KIT

First of all I really appreciate that this comes with a texture control crème, simply because it saves you the money of having to buy Vaseline and like I said in THE RIGHT WAY TO TEXTURIZE YOUR HAIR post this is a crucial step when texturizing or even relaxing your hair.

Over all I will say this is a really good texturizer especially for my ladies with super kinky hair. The price is not bad at all and one was enough for my whole head hence it was a retouch. I left mine in for 11mins and even though the pamphlet suggested that we use combs to smooth through after application. I skipped this step just to avoid story for the gods and I am glad I took that decision. The truth is I went texturized because my natural hair is too kinky but at the same time my relaxed hair is to weak. This texturizer gave me that perfect balance.
I also loved the curl keeper and I can't wait to try the large bottle of it.
RATING: 5 STARS

N.B: IF YOU HAVE FINER HAIR DO NOT USE A COMB AND ALSO DO NOT LEAVE THIS ON FOR MORE THAN 12MINS.

BEST CLEANSERS FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN, SENSITIVE SKIN AN OILY SKIN FOUND IN NIGERIA

Contrary to popular belief, the type of cleanser, soap or face wash you use on your oily, sensitive and/or acne prone skin is very important, and there are so many amazing and safe brands of cleanser/washes readily found in Nigeria. Oily skin is caused by over secretion of sebum(oil) and because of the presence of large pores on the skin of most people with oily skin, this oil peeks through really well and could sometimes get really embarrassing, a great way to reduce oil on the skin is by USING THE RIGHT MOISTURIZER for your type of skin. Acne and oily skin was something I dealt with for a really long while, but thank God  I finally found what cured me. I will share with you from personal experience how you can possibly manage your oily and acne prone skin. While there are so many myths surrounding acne and also so many little things we do that aggravate our acne choosing the wrong cleanser can set you 10 steps backward on your journey to healthier skin

WHAT IS IMPORTANT WHEN BUYING CLEANSERS FOR ACNE PRONE OR SENSITIVE SKIN IN NIGERIA

  1. The first key to choosing the right cleanser is one word "GENTLE", stay away from cleansers aimed at acne prone skin because most of these cleansers will contain  harsh ingredients which will further over dry your skin, thereby triggering your sebaceous gland to produce more sebum. Go for basic cleansers that have no active ingredient.
  2. Another thing to look out for is parfum or fragrance, this is especially for my sensitive and acne prone sisters, parfum can greatly aggravate your acne(but if your skin isn't so sensitive then you should be okay).
  3. If you follow my blog regularly, you would remember what I said about acne and soap, products containing soap base can be overly drying to the skin thereby triggering your sebaceous gland to compensate for the dryness which will cause your skin to be overly oily.
  4. Go for cleansers that are oil free

The Johnson's top-to-toe no more tears baby bath is my best cleanser/face wash that can be found in the Nigerian market, it cost just 2000 naira and I got mine from the sahad store in Abuja Nigeria and I do not regret it. It is in a 500ml bottle and is the exact dupe for the acne.org cleanser.

    CETAPHIL CLEANSER
Cetaphil soap and cleanser is a really great example, it cleanses the skin without over drying it and it contains no parfum or harsh chemicals, this goes for about 6500 naira now and it is a really huge bottle which should last you a long time.
    ISIS PHARMA TEEN DERM GEL
I cannot wait to get my hands on this again. When I started my journey to clear skin this was one of the cleansers I used, it had little micro beads in them which gently exfoliates the skin, thinking of how calming this made my skin makes me want to go buy this again. I got mine at a dermatology clinic in Abuja called PRIMA DERMA (you can reach them on facebook for more info and no this is not a sponsored post) for 3000 naira, it lasts a good while and for a healthy skin I did not mind the cost. The only thing is that I will advice this to people who have acne but whose skins are not sensitive and also if you are on any other topical acne treatment do not use this.

    ACNE.ORG CLEANSER

I spoke about this acne.org cleanser in my how I finally found what cured my acne post, this is hands down the best cleanser I have ever used, it will clean your face really well but is very gentle on the skin. This cost about 12 dollars and you can find out how to get it here  in Nigeria along with the whole acne.org regimen at a good shipping price.

    OLAY FACE WASH

I did a thorough review on this face was recently and I have raved about this before, so I am not about to do that again of course but this is my go to, it is really affordable and last a good while. This cost between 1800 naira-2000 naira.

Sebamed is also another great option, it has no soap base and it was made with the right pH for the skin.

Hope you learned something today, thank you so much for reading. What cleansers or soaps are you using that you found in the Nigerian market, leave your comments below I would love to hear from you.

ORGANICS BY AFRICAS BEST CARROT OIL CREAM, IS IT ANY GOOD?

If you follow me on Instagram, you would know that I bought this when I went hair product shopping. I was actually in search for a hair moisturizer when I came across this, I have actually come across the organics by Africa's best carrot oil cream while I was relaxed but I never used it. I decided to try it out because I needed some form of protein treatment because texturized hair even though still curly doesn't change the fact that it is chemically treated.

    WHAT THE TUB SAYS

    ORGANICALLY DIFFERENT!
    This product contains
    NO PETROLATUM OR MINERAL OIL
    ORGANICS by Africa's BEST

When hair is weak or damaged CARROT OIL CREAM helps repair, mend and rebuild. Consistent use promotes growth, Body and Shine. Excellent for all hair types, including natural, relaxed, pressed, curls, texturized or color-treated hair.

Directions: Massage CARROT OIL CREAM into hair daily. Distribute gently and evenly from hair roots to ends. Re-apply generously as needed.

INGREDIENTS: aqua(water), hydrogenated vegetable oil, cetearyl alcohol, PEG-40 castor oil, stearalkonium chloride, cetyl esters, glycine soja (soybean) oil, hydroxyethylcellulose, DMDM hydantoin, Daucus Carota Sativa (carrot) seed oil, parfum (fragrance), soluble collagen, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) leaf extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract, Equisetum Hyemale (Horsetail) Extract, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Cholesterol, Panthenol.

NET WEIGHT: It is 7.5 oz (213g).
    It is yellowish creamy consistency.
    Price: 1800naira

MY VERDICT ON THE CARROT OIL CREAM

First of all I love how this is void of petrolatum or mineral oil because most products containing these ingredients tend to dry out my hair. That being said I absolutely loooooove this product, while this doesn't work as a moisturizer it is great as a protein treatment. I used it when my hair was breaking a little bit and it worked like magic.
I use this every wash day when my hair gets dry (it doesn't absorb well on wet hair). I also use this whenever I braid my hair to prevent breakage. It does leave a little bit of a yellowish cast so you have to blend it in well.

    RATING: *****.
LONGEVEITY: WILL LAST A GOOD WHILE
SMELL: SMELLS REALLY ORGANIC, BUT NOT OFFENSIVE
PRICE: A LITTLE PRICY, It cost 1800 naira

NOTE: This does not act as a moisturizer but as a daily protein

OLAY FOAMING FACE WASH FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

I finally ran out of my acne.org cleanser which I talked about in my HOW I FINALLY CURED MY ACNE POST and needed something equally as gentle to replace it and so I went to the acne.org website and discovered that Dan the owner of the website always gives other options which could act as substitutes to his products. Dan suggested that OLAY FOAMING FACE WASH FOR SENSITIVE SKIN was a good alternative (He also suggested Cetaphil but I couldn't find this at the time).

WHAT IT SAYS ON THE OLAY FACE WASH TUBE

    OLAY foaming face wash {SENSITIVE}

DIRECTIONS: Wet hands and face. Dispense a small amount of product into hands. Add water, work into lather and massage on skin. Rinse off with water.

INGREDIENTS: water/eau, glycerin, sodium myristoyl sarcisinate, PEG-120 methyl glucose dioleate, sodium lauroamphoacetate, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, polyquaternium-10, PEG-150 pentaerythrityl tetrastearate, glycol distearate, sodium lauroamphodiacetate, sodium trideceth sulfate, citric acid, disodium EDTA, phenoxyethanol, DMDM hydantoin.
    COLOUR: PURPLEISH

MY VERDICT ON THE OLAY FACE WASH

This product first of all lacks everything I love my cleansers to lack. It has no oil(perfect for oily skin), no fragrance and no soap. This cost me 1875 naira and I got it at Akwa ibom state (I realized that its a little tough to get here in Abuja). This cleanser is really gentle on the skin which is very similar to the acne.org cleansers and this makes me love it even more. While I miss my acne.org cleanser, this has been an amazing substitute. I have gone through a whole tube and about to go through another. It does not over dry, irritate or break me out and I have really sensitive skin.

    RATING:****
    SMELL: NO SMELL
LONGIEVITY: LASTED ME AN ALARMING 3 MONTHS AND COUNTING.
PRICE: 1,875 NAIRA (WORTH EVERY PENNY)

CLEAR ESSENCE SKIN BEAUTIFYING MILK, A BLEACHING CREAM

    CLEAR ESSENCE BEAUTIFYING MILK

I got back from NYSC recently and boy did I get dark as anything. We stood in the sun for hours during our drills and that resulted into a little bit of a sun burn. I got back home and immediately started looking for options to tone and nurture my skin back to health. I went to my local beauty store and picked out the clear essence beautifying milk.

    COLOUR: WHITE

MY VERDICT ON THIS BEAUTIFYING MILK

Like I said I got this to treat the darkening caused by my time at the NYSC camp in Abuja, It was one of the most affordable brands I saw there that could do the work, this product works gently but effectively, you do not see the results in one day, you have to got through more than half the tub to see actual results and I do not mind that at all. I do advice that you use this at night alone as it does contain hydroquinone and when in contact with the sun it could make your situation even worse. This worked and I absolutely loved it, I will be repurchasing one more bottle of this.

    RATING: ****
SMELL: IT IS A LITTLE STRONG BUT NOTHING YOU CANNOT GET USED TO
LONGEIVITY: COULD LAST AS LONG AS 2 MONTHS
PRICE: 1800 NAIRA, VERY REASONABLE PRICE AND WORTH EVERY PENNY.

    N. B: Make sure you use this only at night
